Moab Arts & Recreation Center, 111 E 100 N, Moab, UT 84532, USA
Class Description: Experiment with simple block printing techniques to print your own custom set of 10 holiday cards. Block printing is an ancient and affordable relief printing technique that uses a carved material to apply ink onto paper or fabric. Students will learn to transfer an image onto a soft rubber block, use tools to carve, and make prints by hand onto pre-folded cards. Leave with a carving tool and a set of post-ready cards with envelopes to send to your loved ones this holiday season.
About the Instructor: Melisa Morgan (she/they) is an artist and designer from Flint, Michigan. Working largely by hand, Melisa’s practice utilizes a combination of printmaking, installation, and social practice to explore plant-human relationships, nonduality, and the commons. She became enamored with printmaking while studying graphic design over a decade ago, and has since spent time as a screen printer, letterpress demonstrator, and at-home block printer. She currently serves as the Assistant Director of Moab Arts, a municipally run art center in Moab, Utah. She is also a working artist-member of Mancos Common Press, a historic community letterpress space in Mancos, Colorado.
