Artist Statement:

I’m a Utah kid, born in Salt Lake City, raised in the suburbs of Sandy at the
foothills of the Wasatch Mtns where I learned my love of wilderness and wildness. I studied fine arts at the University of Utah, focusing primarily on sculpture at the time and then drifting my interests towards painting after leaving school, young and wonder lust. I moved to Moab in the autumn of 1997. Over the last 25 plus years my art has metamorphized from plein air landscapes, social satire cartoon realism, textural abstracts, figurative studies and more, in no specific order. Although my styles are restless in change, the desire to express has been steady. My latest manifestations which I call, “Landscraps”, are a fusion on a couple of levels. I see them, as painterly in composition, yet sculptural in assemblage. The materials are those of the construction industry, plaster and plywood. As well as being the scraps that are typically destined for the landfill. They also combine my creative design with my building trade skills. To me, they invoke the essence of the geological wonders of the Colorado Plateau, which are so varied in layers and shapes, sculpted by the elements and time.
