“Instant Moab” is a retrospective of instant photography work by Moab resident Terry Knouff, featuring paper enlargements of Polaroid instant film photography from Moab and surrounding areas. Many of the original photos for this show where taken in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. The original images where taken using a Polaroid SX-70 camera, and now unavailable Polaroid TimeZero Supercolor instant film . TimeZero’s film emulsion had the unique ability to be manipulated after the instant image appeared. Most of the images in the show where produced using this “in film” manipulation technique. Much of the subject matter of the show has disappeared from Moab, and the nature of the show’s use of transient materials, such as plotter printer stock as opposed to more stable silver gelatin prints, highlights the ephemeral nature of the human built environment, and the instant gratification of modern photographic processes and platforms.
