Artist Statement: Cottonwood, vandyke print on 100% cotton rag, is a historic photographic print from a larger body of work that seeks to explore connection with place and what it means to develop intimacy with oneself and our natural surroundings via creation of a sense of place. Through showcasing familiar landscapes within southeastern Utah this work aims to illustrate the emotive qualities of place and what it means to be immersed within a landscape that creates and sustains solace, a broader connection with the land and ecosystems, and a sense of awe.
