Artist Statement:
I have been a professional landscape and nature photographer for over fifty years. That means I was lucky enough to really make a good living at it. Generally I’m trying to get the most detail and information in my image to simulate looking at the real subject. To that end, I have used huge cameras, including 4x5 inch film cameras and medium format digital. Almost all my work is done outdoors, and although I’ve shot in over 130 countries, I have concentrated most strongly on the Four Corners area, all of Utah, and now in my senior moments, I’m sticking pretty close to Moab. I’m thrilled to find new subjects here almost every time I go out to shoot. I’m proud my images have been used for conservation of the places I shoot, and I’ve been able to contribute to other local issues, like creating the images that helped get the mill tailings cleaned up. The changes in Moab over these many years have been a little difficult for me, but I’m lucky to have the memories of basically having this place to myself. I remember thinking back in 1980, where are all the other photographers? Also, I’ve gotten to see and photograph things that no longer exist, so there is an historic angle to some of my images. I thank every one who bought my images for publication, and for display, for their amazing support over the decades. I dreamed I could do this, and somehow it happened.
